Hermal encourages innovative application research

The € 10,000 award was presented for the third time on April 23, 2005, during the 43rd conference of the German Dermatological Society (DDG).

This year, the five-man scientific committee under the leadership of the patron Professor Dr Gerd Plewig, Director of the Clinic and Polyclinic for Dermatology and Allergology of the University of Munich decided that the award was to be split. A paper on the improvement of diagnostic intervention in the rare cold urticaria and a pharmaco-economic method study were each awarded € 5,000.

The award winners were: Ralf Cummerow, University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf, for his paper 'Pharmaco-economic method study for the recording of patient-based benefit values: Willingness-to-pay, patient preferences and quality of life with psoriasis vulgaris' and university lecturer Dr Marcus Maurer, Charité Berlin, for 'A new and improved method for the diagnosis and control of the development of cold urticaria'.

The Hermal Award will be presented once again in July 2006. The period for applications, which starts now, ends on April 30, 2006. The award is offered for new diagnostic methods, clinical and therapeutic studies or more advanced concepts and post-care examinations in dermatology.
