Allergic rhinitis

Tips for avoiding allergens (see also under Allergies in General)

For pollen allergy:

  • Monitor the current pollen flight information in daily newspapers, on the news and/or on the Internet during the pollen season and do not air your rooms when the pollen flight is at its peak.
  • Keep the car windows closed when driving.
  • Arrange your holiday according to the pollen flight times in the respective holiday region.
  • Declare the bedroom to be a pollen-free zone: e.g. wash your hair in the evening, change your day clothes outside of the bedroom, etc.

For an allergy to house dust mites

  • Vacuum clean and/or dust regularly
  • Use a vacuum cleaner with fine dust filters
  • To kill the mites, wash bedclothes/clothing at 60°C if possible or with additives that kill mites (e. g. benzyl benzoate).
  • There are mite-proof covers for mattresses, blankets and cushions.
  • Mites like damp areas. Therefore ensure low humidity in rooms (e.g. open the windows regularly).
