Tips to avoid allergens
- House dust mites love a warm and damp environment. They are therefore very frequently found in beds and mattresses. They feed off human skin scales. The excretion products, the faeces of the mites, are allergenic. With a house dust mite allergy, the aim is to reduce the number of dust mites and to bring about a deterioration in their living conditions. Dead mites and mite faeces can be removed by regular vacuum cleaning and/or dusting, etc. Vacuum cleaners equipped with fine dust filters should be used for this. To kill the mites, wash bedclothes/clothing at > 60°C if possible or with additives that kill mites (e. g. benzyl benzoate). There are mite-proof covers for mattresses, blankets and cushions. Mites like damp areas. Therefore ensure low humidity in rooms (e.g. open the windows regularly).
- With a pollen allergy: To minimise pollen pollution at home, you should not air the rooms when pollen flight is at its peak. For this purpose, please consult the current pollen flight information in daily newspapers, on the news and/or Internet. Also keep the car windows closed when driving. Arrange your holiday according to the pollen flight times in the respective holiday region. In particular the bedroom should be declared a pollen-free zone (wash your hair in the evening, change your day clothes outside of the bedroom, etc.).
- With an animal hair allergy, the animal should ideally be given a new home and contact with the respective animals avoided. However, animal hair, in particular with cats, can sometimes stay for years in the flat or house. Animal products such as horsehair mattresses, animal fur, feather cushions, etc.can also sometimes cause allergies.
- With food, drug and contact allergies, the triggering food or the triggering substance should be avoided. The product information (including composition) from the manufacturer should be complied with in this case.
