Nummular eczema
General
Nummular eczema or nummular dermatitis is characterised by coin-shaped or oval changes in the skin that are reddened, weeping and become scaly as the disease progresses. Nummular eczema occurs with a frequency of 0.1 to 0.4% based on the overall population. Usually, older adults between the ages of 50 and 70 are affected. It predominantly occurs on the limbs (arms, legs) but also the torso, in particular the upper back, can be affected. The eczema may possibly have a microbial cause.
