Seborrhoeic eczema
Causes
To date, the exact cause is not known. The following factors possibly play a role in the development of seborrhoeic eczema:
- Heredity
- Increased production of sebum
- Increased colonisation with yeasts that are part of the skin's normal flora
- Stress
- Climate (the skin conditions occur more frequently in the winter, improve in the summer and by the seaside)
- General state of health (if pronounced forms occur in younger patients, an immunity deficiency should be excluded)
- With seborrhoeic infant eczema: a temporarily increased production of sebum
A link to psoriasis is being discussed.
The risk of developing seborrhoeic eczema is e.g. increased
- If family members have the disease
- If you have a tendency to oily skin/oily hair or sweat heavily
- With stress
- With a cold, dry climate
- With men (they are more frequently affected than women and the disease is often more strongly pronounced with them)
- If you are suffering from Parkinson's disease or are infected with HIV
- If you are overweight
