Athlete's foot

Athlete's foot usually makes itself known through a white colouring, i.e. a swelling of the skin, followed by redness and skin scaling or cracks in the skin. In most cases, the foot mycosis starts in the areas between the toes, which are difficult to splay, primarily between the 3rd and 4th toes. Itching is also possible.

If the mycosis of the areas between the toes is not treated, the fungal infection can spread to the underside of the toes, the heel, the soles and the sides of the foot ('moccasin type'). The infected skin then looks like it is covered by a fine, flour-dust-like scaling. For lay persons, the skin then appears simply 'dry'. Itching/burning cracks in the skin and acute inflammatory reactions with formation of blisters and seeping can, however, occur.
