Athlete's foot

  • The preferred areas of skin fungus diseases are the feet. To avoid an infection through infected skin scales, bathing shoes should be worn in swimming baths, gymnastic halls, showers, saunas and in hotel rooms.
  • Wear suitable shoes that are not too tight, ideally made of leather, as this is air-permeable and does not cause any accumulation of moisture, as is the case in such things as sports shoes or wellington boots.
  • Always be sure to dry the areas between your toes well after showering or having a bath!
  • Change socks and tights (ideally made of cotton) on a daily basis and wash at a temperature of at least 60 ° C.
  • The shoes should be regularly disinfected.
  • Do not use the towels of other family members, particularly if one of the persons has a fungal infection.
  • Increased foot sweat can be alleviated with suitable baths (e.g. tannin baths).
  • A basic internal illness that makes the person susceptible to fungal infections (e.g. diabetes mellitus) should also be treated thoroughly.
  • Attention smokers: Every cigarette reduces the temperature in the body and in the extremities, particularly the feet. Cold (circulatory disorder), however, is also a factor that weakens the immune system and thus facilitates the colonisation of the fungi.
