Diseases Caused by Yeasts
Treatment
Nystatin, Natamycin or Amphotericin B in particular are possible active ingredients. These active ingredients work in a targeted way against yeasts. Other anti-fungal agents with a broad therapeutic spectrum such as Miconazol or Clotrimazol can be used (externally). Pastes are most suitable for the treatment of yeast infections in the nappy region or in the folds of the skin. Creams or solutions are also available.
In addition to treatment with anti-mycotic active ingredients, the treatment of possible basic illnesses (e.g. adjustment of the blood sugar level for diabetes mellitus) is also important. Favouring factors should be eliminated (e.g. check whether the dental prosthesis fits properly).
With yeast infections in the nappy region, it is frequently advisable to eliminate the pathogen reservoir in the digestive tract. Some of the aforementioned active ingredients can be taken for this. With infants, however, the paediatrician should first be consulted in all cases.
