Fungal diseases
Questions & Answers
What can I do in addition to treatment with medication?
Good personal hygiene is important. If, for instance, the foot is affected, this should be washed twice a day. So that the skin does not swell up and thus, become a new port of entrance, do not take a foot bath for longer than 10 minutes. Then dry well afterwards.
How long does a fungal treatment last?
The treatment of a fungal infection usually lasts 3 weeks. The treatment should also be carried out beyond this period, even if the visible skin symptoms have already faded away beforehand. You can expect an infection of the nails to last up to 6 months, sometimes also longer. It lasts as long as it takes for a healthy nail to grow back again.
What is nappy rash?
This is a fungal infection in the nappy region of infants. Strong pain can occur here as the skin areas lie on top of one another in this area. The disease can be quickly cleared up with appropriate pastes that contain a drug that kills fungi. Please ask your paediatrician.
How dangerous are intestinal fungi?
All normal intestinal flora include bacteria and, in moderation, fungi. Only in rare cases does a disease develop that requires treatment, which can then be managed with tablets.
