Fungal diseases
Tips
- The preferred places for skin fungal diseases are the feet. To avoid an infection through infected skin scales, bathing shoes should be worn in swimming pools, gym halls, showers, and saunas, as well as in hotel rooms.
- Wear suitable shoes that are not too tight and that are ideally made of leather, since this is air-permeable and does not cause any accumulation of moisture, such as is the case with gym shoes or rubber boots.
- Always dry the spaces between your toes well after showering or having a bath, if necessary, blow-dry at a cool temperature.
- Change socks and tights (ideally made of cotton) every day, and wash at a temperature of at least 60 °C.
- Do not use the towels of other family members, in particular, if one of the persons is suffering from a fungus.
- Increased foot sweat can be alleviated with suitable baths (e.g. tannin baths).
- Any existing basic internal illness that makes the person susceptible to fungal diseases (e.g. diabetes mellitus) should also be well treated.
- Smokers please note: Every cigarette reduces the body temperature, also in very isolated body zones, in particular the feet. Cold (circulatory disorder) is, however, also a factor that weakens the body's defence mechanisms and thus, facilitates colonisation by the fungi.
