Nail fungi
Symptoms
A nail fungal disease causes discoloration of the nail ranging from yellow to dark brown, in rare cases also greenish or black. The nail can also thicken and become brittle. An unpleasant itchiness can occur in the surrounding skin.
Normally, the nail fungal infection starts on the front side of the nail and then spreads in the direction of the body towards the half-moon-shaped lunula. In rare cases, this growth zone of the nail is also one of the areas affected right from the start.
The disease develops unnoticed at the beginning and does not cause any pain at all. That is why it is often not recognised as a problem by those affected.<
However, the nail can be so badly damaged that it causes problems and hardly grows back again. This process can take years.
