Nail fungi

  • Wear clothing/socks made of breathable materials (e.g. cotton).
  • Avoid excessive pressure on the toes, e.g. caused by shoes that are too tight
  • Avoid air-impermeable shoes (e.g. rubber boots or shoes made of synthetic material). It is better for you to wear leather shoes and air-permeable, open shoes, or sandals in the summer.
  • Change your shoes during the day and let the shoes that you wear dry out thoroughly (where necessary, stuff with newspaper to draw the moisture out of the leather).
  • Always wear bathing sandals at swimming pools, saunas, public showers (e.g. at the gym) or in hotel rooms.
  • After washing, dry your hands and feet thoroughly, in particular between the toes!
  • Always use your own towel/flannel and your own nail care set (e.g. nail files).
  • During a mycosis treatment, change the towels, flannels and socks used daily and wash at 60° C at least. A washing disinfectant is recommended for sensitive materials.
  • Your shoes and, if applicable, socks should also be disinfected on a regular basis.
  • Ensure good circulation in your feet (e.g. through foot gymnastics, hot and cold showers).
  • Boost your immune system with a healthy, balanced diet and sufficient exercise in the fresh air.
