Hair loss

Questions & Answers

Why does hair loss occur particularly frequently in men?

Hair loss in men is usually inherited or caused by hormones, see also androgenetic alopecia.

Could my diet be responsible for my thin, lifeless, brittle hair? Could it lead to hair loss?

A non-balanced, one-sided diet can result in an undersupply of nutrients to the hair. In particular, a lack of vitamins, iron and proteins can change the structure of the hair and also result in hair loss. With deficiencies caused by diet, it is recommended that you take a special combined vitamin and protein drug such as Gelacet gelatine capsules with biotin. The use of a mild haircare shampoo is also recommended.

Are UV rays harmful to hair and can they lead to hair loss?

Hair cannot get sunburn – but UV rays damage the hair shaft particularly in combination with saltwater, wind and dry air. The hair becomes dry and brittle. The colour fades. Sunburn on the scalp can result in hair loss. As strong sunlight can also lead to circulatory problems and subsequent damage such as skin cancer, it is advisable to wear something on your head when the sun is out.
