Head lice

General

If head lice (pediculosis) are detected in your or your child's hair, the first thing to remember is: there is no cause for panic!

Old prejudices are long out-of-date. Head lice do not transmit diseases, nor do they have anything to do with uncleanliness. Quite the contrary. Head lice are found in the best families and also feel very much at home on clean heads. Because head lice are transmitted predominantly by direct contact, for instance when snuggling up to parents or playing in the dolls' corner at pre-school when children put their heads together to play.

However, as head lice can spread very easily and sometimes affect entire pre-schools or schools and the families concerned, they should be stopped in their tracks as soon as possible.

Detailed information on the topic of head lice and how to get rid of them can be found here.
